Hello and welcome.

I am a counsellor based in South Manchester. My name is Ian Woollams.

Please look around my site and see if what I can offer sounds good for you?

Preferring to work with individuals over the age of 18yrs, I offer a friendly, warm and non-judgemental relationship. A place where you can feel safe to explore problems and issues in confidence. As a Person Centred counsellor, I believe we all have within us the means to grow towards a more realistic present and fruitful future. But dealing with life’s difficulties may have caused us to lose ourselves along the way. It is through a caring and genuine relationship that we can work together and raise new awareness’s of your difficulties. Helping you to feel motivated again and get on with your life.

I am qualified in Counselling for Depression, an NHS/IAPT and NICE recommended therapy.  Currently I am training to become a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Practitioner (MBSR) and frequently bring these learning’s and approaches around mindful awareness into my work. Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is an NHS/IAPT and NICE recommended therapy and has been proven to be highly effective with trauma, anxiety, stress, depression and an overactive mind.

Currently I work at Beacon Counselling Services in Stockport. I have previously worked at Survivors Manchester counselling males survivors of sexual abuse, so I have experienced working with trauma (PTSD) and the effects of abuse. I have also worked for ABL Health working with over-eating disorders.

Learning in depth about attachment issues was invaluable help for men traumatised by sexual abuse. I now regularly use attachment knowledge in all my therapeutic work.

I can offer short term and long term counselling / psychotherapy.

My service is available to everyone, irrespective of gender, age, race, disability, ability, sexual orientation, culture or employment status.

I work from a group practice in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport.
